Last minute birthday preparations

I'm still a little jet lagged and we didn't wake up until midday Tuesday, which didn't leave much time to get ready for the birthday on Wednesday.

I started baking the cake at about 7pm, so by the time it had cooked and cooled it was pretty late, but one advantage of jet lag, I wasn't tired.

The requirements for the cake were; pink, a princess and roses. I didn't really have my creative head on though so I just replicated my niece's cake from last year (with a few tweaks).

So, after wrapping presents and decorating the house with birthday bunting, it was then around midnight and I decided I really should make a birthday card. So I grabbed my pen and paints and sketched out a quick card, using the same design as the cake. Card finished in 15 minutes, mission accomplished and ready for the birthday to begin.

Fabric party bags

I got an idea in my head that this year I would make fabric party bags, because I don't really like the plastic ones.

Last year we had paper party bags, which were alright, but not wow. My idea is that the bag is part of the gift too, not that the kids ever really care about the party bags, it's just a token.

So bearing all that in mind, I used some gingham that I had left over from a skirt I made last year to make little shopper style party bags.



The flower on the front is made from my huge stack of unused patchwork fabric, that I cut out and tacked together with embroidery thread. I didn't want to take a huge amount of time and effort just in case they were taken home and straight into the bin.

Next, working on a little something different for the boys.

I created my own teddy design for a toddler group Summer Celebration service sheet and Teddy Bear's picnic party. The teddy then developed into a colouring sheet.
